WooCommerce costs, order by order.

Every order a WooCommerce store takes carries its own costs: the payment provider's fee, postage and packaging, any discount or free shipping, and sometimes a refund. DIGITALON builds WooCommerce stores on the Sunshine Coast, set up so those costs stay visible.

Each sale carries its own costs.

WooCommerce takes no commission, so the costs on each order come from elsewhere. The payment provider deducts its fee before paying you, postage and packaging cost money whether or not the customer pays for shipping, and coupons, free shipping offers and refunds all come out of the margin. None of these appears on the build invoice, but together they decide whether each order makes money.

We build stores on WordPress and WooCommerce and set them up so those per-order costs are easy to see and control: shipping rules that charge close to what postage costs, coupons with limits, refunds recorded on the order and reports that show discounts and refunds beside sales. The yearly cost of owning a store is covered in our full cost guide.

The costs on every WooCommerce order.

Six costs that come with each sale, and the store settings that keep each one in proportion.

No platform commission

WooCommerce itself takes nothing from a sale and charges no monthly platform fee. That makes the other per-order costs easier to see: every dollar that leaves an order goes to a provider you chose, such as the payment provider or the carrier.

What the payment provider keeps

Stripe, PayPal and Afterpay each charge a fee on the payments they process, set out on their own published rates and deducted before payout. The fee varies by provider and payment method, so the mix you offer changes what each order costs.

Postage and packaging

Packaging costs money on every order, and postage costs the same whether the customer pays it or you absorb it. Shipping classes and Standard's rules by weight, location and cart value let the store charge close to what each parcel really costs.

Free shipping and coupons

A free shipping offer or a coupon is a cost the store absorbs. WooCommerce coupons can carry a minimum spend, an expiry date, usage limits and product exclusions, and free shipping can require a minimum order; discount coupons come with Standard.

Refunds, returns and disputes

A refund returns the sale amount and, depending on the provider, the original fee may not come back; a returned parcel adds postage both ways; a disputed payment can carry the provider's own fee. Check each provider's terms, and record every refund on the order.

Monthly reports, read with payouts

WooCommerce's reports show gross sales, coupons, refunds, shipping and net sales by day, month or year. Read them beside your payment provider's payout reports each month to see what each order really earned after every cost.

Packages that set up the cost controls.

Hosting, your domain, your payment provider’s transaction fees and ongoing maintenance are separate. The page counts are website pages, not a product limit: catalogue size, product imports, migrations and custom integrations are agreed and quoted before work starts. Compare every inclusion and the optional features on eCommerce pricing, or see website design packages if you do not need a shop.

Your store, your hosting, your login.

Every DIGITALON store is a custom WordPress and WooCommerce build. WooCommerce is free and open source, takes no commission on your sales and runs on hosting you choose, with the administrator login yours from day one.

The shop and the pages that bring shoppers to it live in one WordPress site, edited the same way. You can run it yourself, or hand the updates to the team that built it.

01

No platform commission

Your payment provider charges its transaction fee. WooCommerce itself takes no percentage of your sales and has no monthly platform fee.

02

Hosting you choose

Keep your own host, or use our managed WordPress hosting, sized for the catalogue and the traffic you expect.

03

Care after launch

Our maintenance packages cover plugin and WooCommerce updates, backups, security checks and support.

04

One Australian team

The people who scope, design and build the store are the people who answer your questions, from Wurtulla on the Sunshine Coast.

From brief to first order.

A basic store usually takes two to three weeks. Extra features and integrations add time, and we tell you how much before we begin.

Step 01

Scope and price

We agree the pages, catalogue, features and search work, then confirm the package, any extras and the payment stages in writing.

Step 02

Design

You see the design and sign it off before the build starts, while changing a layout is still quick.

Step 03

Build and test

Products, payments, shipping and tax are set up in WooCommerce, then tested with real orders on a phone and a desktop.

Step 04

Launch and hand over

We go live and hand over your administrator login. Standard and Premium include one-to-one training on your own store.

Online stores we have built.

These are stores and online sales sites our team designed and built. They show completed work, not a promise of the same result for every business.

I was very impressed as they were very responsive and helpful as I was a newbie. Good communication with Sabrina who took the time to explain all the process and gave some tips.

Questions about WooCommerce costs per order.

Package fit, GST, deductions, postage, free shipping, coupons, refunds, migration, search and support.

Ask us about your store
Which package gives us the most control over per-order costs?

Standard: shipping rules by weight, location and cart value, discount coupons, PDF invoices and Google Analytics, on top of Basic's flat-rate or free shipping and card and PayPal payments. Premium adds a shipping cost calculator, order tracking and more ways to pay. Compare them on eCommerce pricing.

Is the GST on each order part of our margin?

No. If your business is registered for GST, the GST inside each price is collected for the ATO, so margins are worked out without it; your accountant can confirm your position. Our own build prices of $4,990, $5,990 and $7,990 include GST.

Which costs come out of an order before we are paid?

The payment provider's fee, deducted from each payment before the payout; WooCommerce takes nothing. Postage, packaging and any discount don't come out of the payout itself, but they come out of the margin, so count them for every order too.

Should postage be charged at cost or built into prices?

Either works if it is deliberate. Charging postage at checkout keeps product prices lower; building it in allows free shipping. Shipping classes group items with similar postage, and Standard's rules by weight, location and cart value keep the charge close to the real cost.

Can a free shipping offer require a minimum order?

Yes. WooCommerce's free shipping method can require a minimum order amount or a free-shipping coupon, set by shipping zone, so remote addresses can have a different threshold from the city. Set the minimum where the margin still covers the postage you absorb.

How can coupons be limited so they don't run at a loss?

WooCommerce coupons can set a minimum and maximum spend, an expiry date, a usage limit per coupon and per customer, and the products or categories they exclude, such as sale items. Discount coupons come with Standard, so promotions can carry those limits from the start.

What does a refund cost the store?

The sale amount, and sometimes more: depending on the provider, the original payment fee may not be returned, return postage may fall on you, and a disputed payment can carry its own fee. Refund from the WooCommerce order screen so the amount and reason are recorded.

Can we move an existing store's shipping and coupon settings across?

Yes, as part of a quoted migration: products, customers, orders, coupons and shipping rules are reviewed and rebuilt in WooCommerce, with the old store trading until the new one is tested. A basic new store takes about two to three weeks; a migration's timing is set in its quote.

Does SEO lower what each order costs?

It can, over time, because visitors who find the store through search arrive at no cost per visit. SEO starts with our Standard build and GEO with Premium, with ongoing work in our SEO packages. No one can promise positions or traffic, so treat it as a long-term investment.

Can you review our store's costs and settings after launch?

Yes. We can check the shipping rules, coupons, payment methods and reports against how your orders really run, as on-demand work quoted first, and our maintenance packages keep the store updated, with eCommerce site updates in the Advanced and Premium levels. The store and its login stay yours.

Check what each order really costs.

Tell us what you sell, how you post it and how customers pay. Our team at Wurtulla on the Sunshine Coast will set the store's shipping rules, coupons and payment methods around your real costs, recommend a package and give you a written quote.
