Hardware store website design built for a huge range.
A hardware store carries thousands of lines in sizes, pack quantities and finishes, sold to weekend DIYers and tradespeople alike. DIGITALON, at Wurtulla on the Sunshine Coast, builds WooCommerce stores for Australian hardware retailers, starting from the supplier data you already have.
Thousands of lines, two kinds of buyer.
A hardware range is unusual in two ways. It is huge, with fixings, tools, paint, plumbing and garden lines in many sizes and pack quantities, most of it described by codes and specifications rather than marketing copy. And it sells to two very different buyers: the DIY shopper who needs guidance and the tradesperson who knows the exact product and wants it quickly.
A good hardware store website handles both without two separate shops: clean product data from supplier files, sizes and packs as variations, search that finds a product by its name, and delivery choices that suit heavy or long items, with pickup from the store. Separate trade price lists are a business decision covered in websites for different buyers.
The right size, quickly.
Both kinds of buyer want the exact item in the right size and quantity.
- Sizes, lengths and pack quantities
- Specifications they can compare
- Delivery or pickup for heavy items

A big range only stays usable if the data behind it is consistent.
- Supplier files imported cleanly
- Search that finds the right line
- Shipping classes by weight and size
What a hardware store website needs.
Six areas to plan before a large hardware range goes online.
Supplier data as the foundation
Most hardware lines arrive from suppliers as spreadsheets with codes, barcodes, brands, specifications and images. Mapping those columns once, into consistent names, categories and attributes, is what makes thousands of products searchable. Large imports are scoped and quoted before the build.
Sizes and pack quantities as variations
A screw in six lengths and three pack sizes is one product with variations, each with its own code, price and stock, not eighteen separate pages. Shoppers choose the size and quantity on one page, and you manage one product instead of many.
Specifications shoppers can filter
Material, finish, length, gauge, voltage and brand belong in attributes, so filters, included from Standard, can narrow a category of hundreds to the few that suit the job. Specifications written only into descriptions cannot be filtered.
DIY guidance beside trade speed
DIY shoppers need project guides and clear product pages; tradespeople want to search, buy and reorder quickly from their account. Customer accounts with order history come with Standard, and project guides can live on the blog included with Premium.
Heavy and long items, priced honestly
Timber lengths, bagged products and ladders cost more to deliver than a box of screws. Shipping classes group items by size and weight so the cart charges the right delivery, and some lines can be set to pickup only. Standard adds advanced shipping rules.
Pickup from the counter or yard
Many hardware orders are needed today or tomorrow. WooCommerce's local pickup option lets customers pay online and collect from the counter or yard, and your team marks the order complete when it is handed over.
Hardware store packages, small range to huge.
Any package can carry a large catalogue; the page counts are website pages. Standard adds filters, customer accounts and advanced shipping rules, and Premium adds live search and a mega menu.

Hosting, your domain, your payment provider’s transaction fees and ongoing maintenance are separate. The page counts are website pages, not a product limit: catalogue size, product imports, migrations and custom integrations are agreed and quoted before work starts. Compare every inclusion and the optional features on eCommerce pricing, or see website design packages if you do not need a shop.
Your store, your hosting, your login.
Every DIGITALON store is a custom WordPress and WooCommerce build. WooCommerce is free and open source, takes no commission on your sales and runs on hosting you choose, with the administrator login yours from day one.
The shop and the pages that bring shoppers to it live in one WordPress site, edited the same way. You can run it yourself, or hand the updates to the team that built it.
No platform commission
Your payment provider charges its transaction fee. WooCommerce itself takes no percentage of your sales and has no monthly platform fee.
Hosting you choose
Keep your own host, or use our managed WordPress hosting, sized for the catalogue and the traffic you expect.
Care after launch
Our maintenance packages cover plugin and WooCommerce updates, backups, security checks and support.
One Australian team
The people who scope, design and build the store are the people who answer your questions, from Wurtulla on the Sunshine Coast.
From brief to first order.
A basic store usually takes two to three weeks. Extra features and integrations add time, and we tell you how much before we begin.
Scope and price
We agree the pages, catalogue, features and search work, then confirm the package, any extras and the payment stages in writing.
Design
You see the design and sign it off before the build starts, while changing a layout is still quick.
Build and test
Products, payments, shipping and tax are set up in WooCommerce, then tested with real orders on a phone and a desktop.
Launch and hand over
We go live and hand over your administrator login. Standard and Premium include one-to-one training on your own store.

Questions about hardware store website design.
Large ranges, supplier data, trade buyers, heavy items, pickup, packages, price, GST, timing, search and care after launch.
Ask us about your store ↗How is a hardware store website with thousands of lines priced?
From the package, then the import. Basic is $4,990, Standard $5,990 and Premium $7,990 as one-off build prices, and the page counts are website pages, not a product limit. Importing and cleaning a large supplier range is scoped and quoted before work starts; every inclusion is on our eCommerce pricing page.
Will GST appear on our invoice for the build?
Yes, and it is already inside the price. $4,990, $5,990 and $7,990 include GST, and the tax invoice shows the GST amount. Hosting, your domain, payment provider fees and any quoted import or integration are separate and listed apart in your quote.
Do tradespeople and DIY shoppers need different packages?
No, one store serves both. Standard suits most hardware stores, adding filters, customer accounts with order history for quick reorders and advanced shipping rules. Premium adds live search and a mega menu for very large ranges. Separate trade prices or account-only pricing are custom work, quoted to scope.
Can trade customers pay on account?
Not by default. WooCommerce takes payment at checkout by card or PayPal, and bank transfer is built in for customers who prefer it. Credit accounts, invoices on terms or trade-only prices need a quoted extension or custom work, and your accounting system may need connecting as well.
How are heavy items like timber and bagged products delivered?
With shipping classes that charge by size and weight, or as pickup only. Every package has flat-rate, free and local pickup options; Standard adds rules by weight, location and cart value, and Premium a shipping cost calculator. Live courier rates for heavy freight are a quoted add-on, and some lines simply suit collection.
How do thousands of supplier lines get into the store?
Through a mapped import. Supplier spreadsheets are cleaned, their columns mapped to WooCommerce's names, categories, attributes and variations, and a sample imported and checked before the full range. Large or messy imports are quoted to scope, and new supplier lines can be added later the same way.
Does a big catalogue slow the build down?
The build itself usually takes two to three weeks for a basic store; a big catalogue adds the time needed to clean and import the data. Opening with your best-selling categories and adding the rest after launch gets the store trading sooner. We agree the timing with the scope and price.
Will DIY shoppers find our products through Google?
Clear product names, specifications and project guides make the range easier for search engines and AI tools to understand, but no one can promise a position, traffic or an AI citation. Standard includes keyword and category research with on-page SEO, Premium adds GEO and a blog, and ongoing SEO is a separate service.
We already sell online on another system. What carries across?
Usually the products, categories, customers and order history, with addresses that rank kept or redirected. The move is assessed and quoted separately, and the old store keeps trading until the new one has been tested. Links to stock or accounting systems are assessed at the same time.
Who keeps prices and stock current after launch?
Your team, mostly: prices, stock and new lines are edited in WooCommerce or updated by re-importing a supplier file, and Standard and Premium include one-to-one training. You own the store and its login. Our maintenance packages cover updates, backups and security, with eCommerce site updates at the Advanced and Premium levels.
Sell the whole range online.
Tell us how big your range is, where the product data comes from and how your customers buy. Our team at Wurtulla on the Sunshine Coast will plan the import, the variations and the delivery options, recommend a package and quote the build before anything starts.
