Best eCommerce sites have six things in common.
They load quickly, make the right product easy to find, explain it clearly, earn trust, keep checkout short and are built phone-first. DIGITALON, at Wurtulla on the Sunshine Coast, builds custom WooCommerce stores to that checklist for businesses across Australia, with the price agreed before work starts.
The best stores make buying easy.
If you are studying the best eCommerce sites for ideas, look past the big names and big budgets. What makes those stores worth copying is how little they make a shopper work: nothing to wait for, nothing to hunt for, no unanswered question about the product or the business, and no surprise at the checkout. That standard does not depend on the size of the business, and a new store can be planned to meet it.
Treat the six points below as a test you can run on your own store, on the top eCommerce sites in your field, or on the brief for a new one. Most of the fixes are unglamorous: better product data, lighter images, suitable hosting, clearer policies and fewer checkout fields. For the wider budget and content decisions, see planning the best eCommerce website for your business.
A quick judgement.
Shoppers decide quickly whether a store deserves their time and their card details.
- Photos and prices that appear without a wait
- The right product from the first search
- Delivery cost and returns before checkout
STORE
Your own store, on a phone.
The quickest check is to shop your store the way a new customer would.
- A product page over mobile data
- A search in your customers' words
- A test order from cart to confirmation
Six things to check on any store.
What to look for on each point, and what it takes to get it right on a WooCommerce store.
Pages that load quickly
Open a product page on your phone using mobile data rather than Wi-Fi. The photo, name and price should appear almost straight away. Image sizes, the theme, plugins and hosting set the pace, which is why product photos are compressed automatically on every store we build.
Search and filters that work
Search for a product the way a customer would, by what it is rather than its model or range name, and check it comes back. Search and filters are only as good as the product data behind them, so we plan names, categories and attributes such as size and colour first.
Product details that answer questions
A product page should answer what a shopper would ask at the counter: size or dimensions, materials, what is included, whether it is in stock, when it will arrive and how returns work. If customers keep emailing the same question, the answer belongs on the page.
Clear signs of a real business
Before paying, shoppers look for signs the store is genuine: a business name and ABN, a phone number or email address, real customer reviews, and delivery, returns and privacy information that is easy to find. HTTPS on every page, from the SSL certificate in every package, is the starting point.
A checkout without hurdles
Count the steps and form fields between the cart and the order confirmation, and question each one. Show the delivery cost before checkout, let first-time buyers pay without creating an account, and offer the payment methods your customers already use, such as cards, PayPal or Afterpay.
Designed for the phone first
Try to find and buy a product on a phone using only your thumb. Menus, filters, photos and every checkout field should work without zooming. We design each store at phone width first, then scale the layout up for larger screens.
Where each package sits on the checklist.
Speed, trust and a phone-first checkout are part of all three. What grows with each package is how shoppers find, compare and pay for products.

Hosting, your domain, your payment provider’s transaction fees and ongoing maintenance are separate. The page counts are website pages, not a product limit: catalogue size, product imports, migrations and custom integrations are agreed and quoted before work starts. Compare every inclusion and the optional features on eCommerce pricing, or see website design packages if you do not need a shop.
Your store, your hosting, your login.
Every DIGITALON store is a custom WordPress and WooCommerce build. WooCommerce is free and open source, takes no commission on your sales and runs on hosting you choose, with the administrator login yours from day one.
The shop and the pages that bring shoppers to it live in one WordPress site, edited the same way. You can run it yourself, or hand the updates to the team that built it.
No platform commission
Your payment provider charges its transaction fee. WooCommerce itself takes no percentage of your sales and has no monthly platform fee.
Hosting you choose
Keep your own host, or use our managed WordPress hosting, sized for the catalogue and the traffic you expect.
Care after launch
Our maintenance packages cover plugin and WooCommerce updates, backups, security checks and support.
One Australian team
The people who scope, design and build the store are the people who answer your questions, from Wurtulla on the Sunshine Coast.
From brief to first order.
A basic store usually takes two to three weeks. Extra features and integrations add time, and we tell you how much before we begin.
Scope and price
We agree the pages, catalogue, features and search work, then confirm the package, any extras and the payment stages in writing.
Design
You see the design and sign it off before the build starts, while changing a layout is still quick.
Build and test
Products, payments, shipping and tax are set up in WooCommerce, then tested with real orders on a phone and a desktop.
Launch and hand over
We go live and hand over your administrator login. Standard and Premium include one-to-one training on your own store.

I was very impressed as they were very responsive and helpful as I was a newbie. Good communication with Sabrina who took the time to explain all the process and gave some tips.
Questions about the best eCommerce sites.
Package fit, product data, checkout choices, cost, timing and care after launch.
Ask us about your store ↗Does every package meet this checklist?
Mostly, yes. Every package is designed phone-first, with compressed product images, SSL and a card and PayPal checkout. The difference is search and filters: Basic suits a small range people can browse, Standard adds product filters and categories, and Premium adds live product search and product compare.
The one-off build prices are $4,990, $5,990 and $7,990, with every inclusion listed on our eCommerce pricing page.
Is GST included in the $4,990, $5,990 and $7,990 prices?
Yes. All three are one-off build prices in Australian dollars and include GST, which is itemised on your invoice. Hosting, your domain, payment provider fees and anything quoted outside the package are separate.
Can WooCommerce deliver every trait on this checklist?
Yes. Fast pages, product search and filters, detailed product pages with reviews, guest checkout and a layout that adapts to a phone are all within WordPress and WooCommerce. What decides the result is how the store is built and run: the product data, the images, the hosting and the checkout settings.
Who supplies the product details and photos?
That is agreed before we quote, along with the catalogue size, product types and variations. You can supply names, descriptions, specifications and photos for us to load, or we can scope an import from a spreadsheet or your current store; large imports and complex catalogues are quoted before work starts.
The 6, 10 and 20 page counts are website pages, not a limit on products.
What if my current store misses several of these traits?
Fix what can be fixed, and rebuild if the problems are structural. Slow images, thin product details or hidden policies on a WooCommerce store can often be fixed in place, while a layout that fails on a phone usually means a website redesign. We review the store first and quote whichever is better value.
Moving to WooCommerce from Shopify, Wix, Squarespace or an older WordPress build is assessed and quoted separately, with products, customers and order history carried across and ranking addresses kept or redirected.
Which payment and delivery options should the checkout offer?
The ones your customers already use, with the delivery cost visible before checkout. Every package takes Visa, Mastercard and American Express through Stripe, plus PayPal, with flat-rate or free shipping. Standard adds shipping rules by weight, location and cart value, and Premium adds Apple Pay, Google Pay and Afterpay, a shipping cost calculator and order tracking.
Live Australia Post, Sendle or courier rates are a quoted add-on, and your payment provider charges its own transaction fees.
How soon can a new store be taking orders?
A basic store usually takes two to three weeks. Your content, feedback, catalogue and any extra features set the rest of the schedule, and we agree it with the scope and price before work starts.
Should first-time shoppers have to create an account?
Usually not. WooCommerce supports guest checkout, so a new customer can pay without setting a password, and customer accounts with order history, included from Standard, are there for people who come back. Trade or members-only stores that approve accounts are the exception, and are quoted to scope.
Will a store built to this checklist rank on Google?
No one can promise a Google position, traffic, sales or an AI citation for any store. What the checklist gives search engines is a fast, clearly organised store with detailed product pages to read.
Standard and Premium include keyword and category research with on-page SEO, Premium adds AI search optimisation (GEO), and ongoing SEO after launch is a separate service through our SEO packages.
What keeps a store fast and secure after launch?
Regular care. Updates to WordPress, WooCommerce and plugins, backups and security checks keep the store safe and working, and hosting sized for your traffic keeps pages quick when a sale brings a rush.
You own the store and hold the administrator login, so you can do this yourself, or hand it to our maintenance packages and managed WordPress hosting.
Let's plan a store around the list.
Show us the store you have or the one you are planning, and what you sell. Our in-house team at Wurtulla on the Sunshine Coast will go through the six traits with you, then confirm the package, the price and a realistic start date. Design reviews, test orders and training happen online, wherever you are in Australia.
