Start an online fashion store that fits from day one.
Fashion shoppers choose a size they cannot try on, so the store has to make fit, colour and returns clear. DIGITALON, at Wurtulla on the Sunshine Coast, builds WooCommerce stores for Australian labels and boutiques starting out online.
Fit is the first sale.
Starting an online fashion store is mostly about fit. Shoppers cannot try the garment on, so they rely on size charts, measurements, fit notes and photos of the piece on a model whose size they know. When that information is missing, they either do not buy or buy two sizes and send one back, and returns are a real cost for a new label.
This page is about getting a first collection online properly: sizes and colours with stock for each, size charts and fit notes per garment, honest photos, returns and exchanges stated before checkout, and a plan for later drops. A focused first range is easier to photograph, stock and describe well. Gifts and sending to someone else are covered in our gift shop guide.
Confidence in the size.
Fashion shoppers buy what they believe will fit.
- Size charts and fit notes
- The model's height and size
- Exchanges stated before checkout
STORE
Stock by size and colour.
Every size and colour needs its own count.
- Variations with their own stock
- Photos that switch with the colour
- New drops scheduled ahead
Starting the store, step by step.
Six things to settle before your first collection goes online.
Sizes and colours with their own stock
A dress in five sizes and three colours is one product with fifteen variations, each with its own stock, so a sold-out size shows as unavailable while the others keep selling. Choosing a colour can switch the photos to that colour.
Size charts and fit notes per garment
A size chart for the label, measurements for each garment and a short fit note, such as relaxed or true to size, answer the question every shopper has. Keep charts consistent, and update fit notes when customers tell you a style runs small.
Model photos with the size stated
Photograph each piece on a model and flat, from the front, back and side, and state the model's height and the size they wear. Honest photos set expectations the garment then meets.
Returns and exchanges for fit
State your returns and exchange terms before checkout, in your own policy wording: time limits, condition, tags and who pays postage. Exchanges for a different size are common in fashion, so make the steps simple to follow.
A first collection, then drops
A focused first range is easier to photograph and stock. Later collections and drops can be prepared in advance and scheduled to go live on their launch date, with sale prices set to start and end on their own dates.
Payments and delivery for fashion buyers
Card and PayPal payments come with every package; Premium adds Afterpay, Apple Pay and Google Pay, which fashion shoppers often use. Flat-rate or free shipping suits light parcels, and a free-shipping threshold can encourage a second item.

Hosting, your domain, your payment provider’s transaction fees and ongoing maintenance are separate. The page counts are website pages, not a product limit: catalogue size, product imports, migrations and custom integrations are agreed and quoted before work starts. Compare every inclusion and the optional features on eCommerce pricing, or see website design packages if you do not need a shop.
Your store, your hosting, your login.
Every DIGITALON store is a custom WordPress and WooCommerce build. WooCommerce is free and open source, takes no commission on your sales and runs on hosting you choose, with the administrator login yours from day one.
The shop and the pages that bring shoppers to it live in one WordPress site, edited the same way. You can run it yourself, or hand the updates to the team that built it.
No platform commission
Your payment provider charges its transaction fee. WooCommerce itself takes no percentage of your sales and has no monthly platform fee.
Hosting you choose
Keep your own host, or use our managed WordPress hosting, sized for the catalogue and the traffic you expect.
Care after launch
Our maintenance packages cover plugin and WooCommerce updates, backups, security checks and support.
One Australian team
The people who scope, design and build the store are the people who answer your questions, from Wurtulla on the Sunshine Coast.
From brief to first order.
A basic store usually takes two to three weeks. Extra features and integrations add time, and we tell you how much before we begin.
Scope and price
We agree the pages, catalogue, features and search work, then confirm the package, any extras and the payment stages in writing.
Design
You see the design and sign it off before the build starts, while changing a layout is still quick.
Build and test
Products, payments, shipping and tax are set up in WooCommerce, then tested with real orders on a phone and a desktop.
Launch and hand over
We go live and hand over your administrator login. Standard and Premium include one-to-one training on your own store.

I was very impressed as they were very responsive and helpful as I was a newbie. Good communication with Sabrina who took the time to explain all the process and gave some tips.
Questions about starting an online fashion store.
Sizes, fit, photos, returns, drops, packages, price, GST, timing, search and moving from another platform.
Ask us about your store ↗How much does it cost to start an online fashion store?
The build is a one-off $4,990 for Basic, $5,990 for Standard or $7,990 for Premium. Budget separately for hosting, your domain, payment provider fees, photography and your first stock. Every package inclusion is listed on our eCommerce pricing page, and any extras are quoted before work starts.
Is GST inside the price of a new fashion store build?
Yes. $4,990, $5,990 and $7,990 include GST, and the tax invoice shows the amount. Whether your new label needs to register for GST, and how the store's tax settings should be configured, are questions for your accountant; the store is set up to follow their advice.
Which package suits a new label with a small first collection?
Often Basic, at $4,990: six pages, card and PayPal payments and flat-rate or free shipping are enough for a small range. Standard adds filters by size and colour, wish lists, customer accounts and SEO as the range grows, and Premium adds Afterpay, Apple Pay, Google Pay and a mega menu. Features can be added later.
Can each size and colour have its own stock?
Yes. Sizes and colours are variations of one product, each with its own stock count and, if you like, its own photos, so a sold-out size shows as unavailable while the rest keep selling. Low-stock alerts tell you when it is time to reorder.
What should a size chart include?
The label's size chart in centimetres, the garment's own measurements and a short fit note, such as relaxed or true to size, plus the model's height and size in the photos. Keep the chart on every product page, not only on a separate page that shoppers have to find.
How should returns and exchanges for fit work?
Simply, and stated before checkout in your own policy wording: the time limit, the condition, tags and who pays postage. WooCommerce handles refunds from the order screen, and an exchange can be processed as a return plus a new order. Consumer-law questions are for your adviser.
Can we launch new collections on a set date?
Yes. New products can be prepared in advance and scheduled to publish on the launch date, and sale prices can start and end automatically. Back-in-stock alerts and pre-orders for a coming drop are quoted extensions, set up and tested before launch.
When could our first collection be on sale?
A basic store usually takes two to three weeks once photos, size charts and product details are ready; those, more than the build, usually set the date. We agree the timing with the scope and price before work starts.
Can we move a Shopify fashion store to WooCommerce?
Yes, after an assessment and a separate quote. Products with their sizes and colours, customers and order history can usually be carried across, with addresses that rank kept or redirected, and the Shopify store keeps trading until the new one has been tested.
Will fashion shoppers find a new label through search?
In time, with clear product names, colours, materials and categories, but no one can promise a position, traffic or an AI citation, least of all for a new label. Standard includes keyword and category research with on-page SEO, Premium adds GEO, and ongoing SEO is separate. You own the store and its content.
