Not-for-Profit Website Redesign: Arafmi’s Support Platform for Queensland Carers
A complete website redesign and rebuild for Arafmi, the Queensland organisation that has supported families and other mental health carers for almost 50 years. DIGITALON rebuilt the site from the ground up around the moment a carer arrives looking for help.
Project Overview
People reach a carer support site under pressure, often for the first time, and often unsure whether the word “carer” even applies to them. The old site asked visitors to understand Arafmi’s structure before they could find help. The brief was to invert that: lead with what the person needs right now, and let the organisational detail follow.
Design Approach
The home page opens with four plain-language pathways — I need support, I want to meet other carers, I need a break, I need information — each colour-coded and carried consistently through the site so a visitor always knows where they are. The tone is warm rather than clinical, the typography is generous and readable, and every support service is one click from the top of the page.
Key Features
The site covers the Carer Support Line, support groups, respite accommodation and workshops, with dedicated sections for multicultural, regional and rural, and young carers. It includes a Resource Hub of curated services and information, an events calendar with online registration, news and publications, a donations path, a section for health professionals and service providers, and newsletter sign-up.
Technical Implementation
Built on WordPress with Elementor and hosted in Australia. Custom post types drive news, events, publications, annual reports and resources so the Arafmi team can maintain the site themselves. The build includes an accessibility toolbar, a Quick Exit control on every page for visitors who need to leave quickly, consent-managed analytics, and a fully responsive layout tested across desktop, tablet and mobile.
SEO Strategy
Content was structured around the language carers actually use rather than sector terminology, with keyword-led headings, a logical URL hierarchy under each support pathway, internal linking from the Resource Hub into individual services, and optimised images. The result is a site that is easier to find for the people who need it and easier for search engines to understand.
